The Guardian recipe issues

I usually read The Guardian in my Kindle fetched via Calibre. There are a few issues with the recipe, that otherwise works great.

1. The article date is poorly formatted. It currently shows like this:

"Fri 7 Nov 2025 15.13 CETFirst published on Fri 7 Nov 2025 13.29 CET"

2. There is a newsletter promotion text that appears in most articles, interrupting the flow of the text. Its contents are:

"skip past newsletter promotion

after newsletter promotion"

3. Some articles show a listing of The Guardian's website sections. For example, I fetched a week's worth of news. In the "climate crisis & environment" section, there is an article titled "‘If there’s a free alternative, I’ll eat healthily’: how Sweden devised brilliant school meals". Its online URL is https://www.theguardian.com/environm...t-school-meals . This article in the calibre generated file has the following in the first few pages:

"1/2

Print subscriptions

Eur

Europe edition
UK edition
US edition
Australia edition
International edition
The Guardian - Back to homeThe Guardian

News
Opinion
Sport"

etc etc, it goes on listing all sections of The Guardian and it takes about 2 1/2 pages.

Thank you for Calibre and maintaining the recipes!

I came here because for some reason the Guardian recipes have been huge for the last week. I am getting file sizes of 30mb+. Is there any way to fix this? I did try the updated recipe but I'm still getting the same issue.

I like to email the file, so it must be less than 25mb I think. Thanks!

It looks as if the issue is caused by all the images for the article "305 best Christmas gifts for 2025: truly brilliant presents tried, tested and handpicked by the Filter UK".

So what would be needed is to exclude https://www.theguardian.com/uk/thefilter from being processed.

Tried that; didn't help. 300+ images each 100 to 200kb in size
