Struggling with Calibre conversion Amazon drm books
Good morning all
I'm new to the Group so if this is in the wrong place or against the rules I apologise in advance. I have a kindle fire hd 8 7th Gen tablet. I have about 10 kindle books which I thought I owned. Turns out I don't, I saw Amazon were stopping the download back up feature. So I downloaded mine before the cut off date. I watched the tutorials on removing drm using calibre and dedrm plugin followed it to the letter. Put my fire hd serial number in the customise part of plug in Dragged one of my books in to calibre, pressed convert, it started up and the flashed up failed due to drm security. I tried again in debug mode, same thing. I've tried it using windows 10 pc and a Linux pc Am I missing something? I want to move from Amazon books and on to kobo but don't want to lose the books I've paid for. Thanks in advance |

A Fire isn't a real Kindle. It's Amazon's version of an Android tablet with an app. So no "eink Kindle" method works.

As Quoth mentioned, LCD Fire tablets are not eink Kindle ereaders. They are completely different devices that run a completely different OS. They just happen to have once been branded Kindle Fire long, long, ago. They haven't been branded Kindle Fire since 2013 because of the confusion. DeDRM has never worked on files from Fire tablets.

I use to copy the file of a kindle book from the device Kindle connected to PC. From directory documents/download/Items01 I copy a file .kfx to Calibre. Today I have bought a new book but when I try to convert the book with Calibre, as usual, to Epub or PDF it's impossible because is "locked by DRM". I update the plugin with the latest that i find here but doesn0t work. Where I can find new plugin for Calibre that dedrm kindle?
Thanks for an Idea. Roby Noris |

KFX can be multi-part files. Don't copy manually, let the KFX Input plugin get all the proper parts off of the Kindle and assemble them.

But I can find only a single file on my kindle device in documents/downloads/Items01, for exemple "Arvo Pärt_ Out of Silence_B01LDLRTMG.kfx"

Plug your Kindle into the computer with calibre running. Drag/drop the .kfx files from the Kindle to calibre and the KFX Input plugin will grab all the other bits and merge them one a single file and then DeDRM can hopefully remove the DRM.

There will be an associated folder, in your case named "Arvo Pärt_ Out of Silence_B01LDLRTMG.sdr", containing additional files that are part of the book.

It is simpler to use calibre's Device view. Calibre has already found the content for you. Click the Device button, then just select what you want to add there, right click and pick Add on the menu.

Thanks for the answers. I Drag/drop the .kfx files from the Kindle to calibre. But unfortunately doesn't work and I see always the format KFX-ZIP (protected by DRM. I tried also to drag/drop all the files of the book (.sdr etc) but it doesn't work. It hasn't been working for two days. Three days ago I bought a Kindle and Calibre unprotected it. I'm afraid Amazon introduced a new DRM protection two days ago.

You are not out of luck as far as using your Kindle to remove DRM from your eBooks. The other solution is to buy from Kobo and forget Kindle sells eBooks. |

Did you delete the failed books before trying to re-import them? Have you actually tried using the Calibre device interface like has been suggested?

I always delete the failed books before trying to re-import them. I think I actually tried using the Calibre device interface as suggested, but the method is no different than what I've always used. Until three days ago, when I bought a Kindle, Calibre unprotected it, as it always has for a long time. Don't you think Amazon introduced a new DRM protection two days ago?
