Sony 505 on plane - light needed?

I am thinking of buying the 505 as a Christmas gift for my daughter who does a lot of air travel. I would like to know if the overhead light on a plane is sufficient for reading the 505 or would you need a clip on light?

The overhead light has always been fine for me. Although I do have very good vision (no contacts or glasses).

I have horrible vision, and the overhead light is still sufficient. My problem with reading on planes is that I fall asleep. Humor aside, I agree: no clip on light necessary.

I will add to this that "basically" if there is enough light to read a paper book you will be able to read on the 505.

I took my 500 to Europe and back last month and had no problem reading it. During the daylight portions, I didn't even need the overhead light.

If you can read a cheap quality paperback book in the available light (you know the ones with the grainy almost grey pages) then you can read the Sony Reader.

Seemed fine to me on various planes. I do have to adjust the angle of the swivel lights most times (oddly aimed to me).

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. Bought the reader a few days ago and I must say it is one of the most beautiful devices I have ever seen. I never expected it to look so elegant and feel so good in the hand. My daughter is going to absolutely love it!

If you fly with a Reader, just be prepared for questions if your neighbor also likes books!

or in my case spend 15 minutes in the back of the plane on a flight from Prague to London discussing my reader with the entire cabin crew after being asked to join them in the galley

Hi,

Got my 505 yesterday from my lovely wife, and spent a full 7 hours using it at 38000 feet between Heathrow and JFK today (Boxing Day)

No need for any extra light.

Very pleased with the 505 so far

I recently spent several hours on three different flights and found that the overhead personal reading light was quite adequate.
