Not sure what is wrong - cannot do factory reset

Hello!

I have Libra 2 for 1 and half years, no issues whatsoever until now.
Yesterday when I was reading a book, when I ended the Kobo did not remember where I stopped to read. I did not put much weight onto that. Today I finished a book and wanted to open a new one and it said something about adobe error. So I also found out that I cannot delete any book that is already on my Kobe. I can put Kobe to sleep, I can power on and off, I can connect to wireless.
Since then (whole day) google is my friend. So, what I tried:
- soft reset
- factory reset via settings - nothing happened, nothing got deleted.
- manual factory reset - at the first try the screen did go black and then did some things but nothing reseted.
- I connected it via usb with cable, I can see the Kobe on my pc, I can open folder, I can delete books but after I restart Kobe the books return. They never delete from the reader.
- I connected to Calibre but there were some connection issues.
- I connected to Kobo Desktop and it did not find my reader - it was slow also and had to shut it down multiple times.
- I talked to support but after some time they did not respond to me any more.
- I did account restore, I did account off/on.
- Mostly I clicked to everything in settings.
- I had my reader connected to power and then tried factory reset. Did nothing.
- I wanted it to update, sync error.
- Wanted manual update but when I want to download file koboroot or any other via usb to folder .Kobo it says error, cannot read it.

It just keep returning to that same percentage of the book I already read.
I cannot open books (not authorized to open). I can search read/unread. So the reader is responding, but I cannot read anything, I cannot update, I cannot delete, I cannot reset.

If anyone has any thoughts about this?
Here in my coutry we dont have service for Kobo - I bought it via Amazon.

Thanx,
Valentina

That almost sounds as if your Libra 2's µSD card has reached the end of it's write life and gone read-only. You may want to check the Memory Upgrade Mod Guide (With Pictures) thread for some instructions on how to create an image from your current card and then copy the image to a new µSD card to see if this will revive your Libra 2.

What is the expected life of an SD card in an e-reader? The Libra 2 wasn't released that long ago, yet it seems like so many people have failing SD cards already.

The numbers tend to vary wildly depending on the brand, size, use of wear levelling, etc. At a minimum, 10,000 write cycles would be expected with some cards claiming up to 100,000 write cycles. On the µSD card I used in my Raspberry Pi 4, it took a lot less time than I had expected to run into problems but then like most Linux OS, Raspbian was endlessly writing small chunks and the wear levelling seemed to be fairly ineffective.

One item I found useful was the LinuxPi's The Pitfalls of Long-Term SD Card Usage in Raspberry Pi Projects. Since a Kobo ereader uses both logging and a database, it does make using SD cards for storage a bit iffy for heavy use.

Hmm... I wonder if it's possible to at least disable logging, since the database is essential for regular operations.

Thank you, I guess we are doing some card changing. Thank you for the info!
