Calibre 8.10m in Linux Ububtu does not recognise Kindle whitepaper
Dear All,
I am new in this forum, actually new in any forum, I have Calibre 8.10 type FlatPak installed in a Linux Ubuntu 24.04.3 as operating system. When I connect the Kindle tuothe PC via a USB port Calibre does not recognize Kindle. Calibre does not recognize the Kindle even though Ubuntu does, and the Kindle itself displays “Connected to the computer” on the screen. I have tried everything: reinstalling Calibre, restarting the PC, trying different Calibre formats that were not Flatpak, calling Amazon and having them send me a new Kindle, trying different ports and USB cables. But I still can't get it to work. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Thanks in advance. Mauricio |

If this is a newer Kindle with an USB-C port, it connects using MTP. You can only have one connection to a MTP device when using Linux or a Mac. There are multiple hits on disabling automount of MTP devices on Ubuntu.

Stop (not kill) gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor before connecting USB if disabling automount in the filemanager or control centre doesn't work. Then "Continue" it after ejecting from Calibre and disconnecting. Ignore the USB error from gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor when it starts again.

Thank you DNSB and Qoth for your support:
Finalyy it did work like this: Pause auto-mounting to use Calibre When the Kindle connects in MTP mode, Ubuntu may automatically “mount” the device and block access from Calibre. To prevent this, you can temporarily stop the gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor process before connecting the Kindle (in GNOME): Stop gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor correctly Open a terminal. Run the following command to stop the process via the full command line: pkill -f -STOP gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor |

Actually "killing" doesn't work as it auto-respawns, hence Stop (=pause) Then I "continue" it later. |
