New paperwhite thumb nails not showing

I had to do a factory reset and about fifty of my books are not showing their thumbnails. Normally they do show up eventually and I just wait until they show up before downloading. After a week they are still not showing. I did a factory reset three times and it still does the same thing with the same fifty books so i'm thinking it's the actual Books themselves and not my device or account.. Has anyone else had this Problem? All my thumbnails show up on all my other kindle devices and my tablets , They show up just fine on my Kindle Scribe and on my iPad and on my Samsung Tablet, it only happens on the brand new 2024 paperwhite. I have my automatic book updates on and I have the latest updates on the kindle

It Looks like those books are no longer in the bookstore. If I go to my content page the link Where I purchased the book is broken. Amazon still sells the books, but they are on the different Kindle page with new covers. Apparently I have this problem only on my ereaders. All my book covers show up just fine on my android app and on my iOS apps. It makes absolutely no sense why my thumbnails show up just fine on the Android and apple apps but not on my ereaders.

Complain to Amazon Customer Service. This sounds like a bug/something that they've missed.

Actually, it kinda does: the apps generate cover thumbnails from the downloaded content's cover image, whereas on Kindle, it syncs down from some Kindle Store cover thumbnail image database based on the ASIN of the downloaded content's metadata.

Since the ASINs in question are no longer 'active' in Kindle Store, the cover thumbnail database doesn't have thumbnail images to download.

What is not clear is why your Scribe (2022?) gets them while your 2024 Paperwhite doesn't.

If you are able to determine the ASIN of the books that are no longer listed (e.g. copy the URL that is broken) and post it here, we might be able to reproduce and figure something out.

I probably have such books among my own purchases but would have to spend a lot of time scrolling through to find them as I have several thousand.

You could complain but I doubt there is anything ACS can do about it.

Well that is interesting. I just checked my Colorsoft. I went to the first book I ever bought from Amazon. The cover does not show. The book will still download but I cannot change the font style, only the font size. Luckily, I have it safely backed up and liberated in Calibre. If I want to reread it, I guess I will just use my Nook.

Out of curiosity, I checked an old Nook Book that I know is out of publication and is not available for purchase. It still has a cover on my GL4 and will download and work just fine.

Most ePub reading software gets the cover from the eBook.

Amazon wants too much control and treats Kindles increasingly like terminals. See PDF annotation on Scribe compared to any other ereader or android or iOS with a digitiser and "pen", not just touch.

You know I have the same problem. I have some books that for whatever reason are not being sold anymore, but I bought (liscened to use) them and they are still in my account but on some devices the covers won't show up. While on others they do.

It the same case where the book is no longer sold under that ASIN

Actually, it’s not working on the scribe now. Stupid me did a factory reset on it. And the same books are not downloading covers..

It is so annoying. I mean, we could still read the book. There’s just no thumbnail photo.

And that is all that this is, 'annoying'.

There are Kindle books that do not even have proper covers in the Kindle Store:

This is why I’ve never got over my peeve when they insisted we see cover art on the Kindle. I loved the old UI where it was a text list, I never knew or cared if a cover image existed.

Thumbnails of book covers are the Spam (in the original Monty Python sense) of the kindle UI.

In the beginning there was list view, and it was good. Then grid view with cover thumbnails got added, but there was an option to have list view instead. Then list view got demoted but was still there. And now micro thumbnails have come to list view and there is no escaping them.

Yeah, it's not a bug. Apparently if the book is no longer sold or has a different ASIN for "reasons" it won't pull a cover.
I had the same thing happen to about 70 books.
I just got off the chat with them about it and they really DGAF

I am tempted to pull the books off of Amazon and resend them to the Docs and then the covers will show, but then I lose the Goodreads updates via Kindle.

Which makes it worse when they don't let the covers show.
