Problems On a Mac with an M4 chip and macOS version Sequoia 15.5
if I frequently switch to Calibre's libraries three or four times without restarting Calibre, the OS partially crashes and won't let me access the folders. If I force quit Calibre, the system recovers.

Doesnt repro on my M2 mac. And calibre is a user mode program it cant affect the operation of the entire OS even if it wanted to. What does wont let you access the folders mean? finder stops working?

This is a comment from a friend who is having this problem. The Finder continues to work except for accessing files in the folders I use in both calibre libraries, and I can't access it until I close the application—sometimes simply closing it and other times "Force Quit"—I can't access it. I forgot to point out that the problem described is sporadic and is caused by calibre slowing down after making several library changes in a short period of time.

I would guess its cause the calibre library folders are in some kind of networked stirage or filesynced folder or similar. calibre operations alone are not nearly intensive enough to slow down finder. Try moving the calibre libraries to an internal drive using a native AppleFS or HFS partition and see if that helps.
