Kindle Scribe not connecting to Calibre I went through all the steps

How are you (attempting) to connect?

If USB, does Windows (explorer) see the device? That must happen.

If it does: See if your device ended up in
Preferences: Ignored device (No icon=No ignored)

The USB doesn’t show up anymore but it shows Kindle Scribe as a device and when I open that icon it shows it as internal storage.

This happened yesterday when I put some books on my Kindle and used Smart Eject I noticed that it didn’t eject. I went to USB to safely eject but there was no eject button.

I ran scan and fix but it looks like my USB is not recognized.

There is no device in ignored devices.

Ignored devices only applies to Calibre, and when Windows sees a device (that you don't want Calibre to use. eg my phone)

If the K is listed on the windows USB icon, something else may have grabbed it. You might see where it is in the Device Manager (Sorry, I just sorta look and Do. So I can't walk you thru)

I tried everything yesterday and couldn’t fix it. The USB is not showing under partitions even.

I hooked up my Kindle Scribe to Calibre again this morning and got the same error code on the screen of the Kindle-to go to Amazon fix my Kindle. That doesn’t work.

I tried the send to Kindle the books I had downloaded and guess what? It worked! The safe eject didn’t work so I had to use the the disconnect button on the Kindle screen.

It should show up under This PC in Windows Explorer as "Kindle Scribe". It will not have a drive letter assigned, and there is no associated safe eject option available as you would have if it mounted as USB Mass Storage (which Scribe does not do: it connects as MTP device).

You do not even need to use Disconnect on the Scribe unless you no longer want it to appear in Windows Explorer (or calibre) and just want it to charge battery: you can just disconnect the cable, and nothing bad will happen.

It can take awhile for the 2022 Scribe to show up in calibre because /system/thumbnails can have many files in it (for both for your library and recommendations in Kindle Store). Calibre has to get list of all files in internal storage before it can show the ones of interest. The 2024 Kindles do not show /system in internal storage so are much quicker to show up, as the complete list of files is significantly shorter.

It's still unclear to me why calibre could not find it. If it shows as a device in Windows Explorer, calibre should see it as well. But again, you need to give it time.

I have a 2024 Kindle Scribe and it worked perfectly in Calibre until a few days ago. I updated my MTP driver for Kindle and now it gives me this error in Calibre:

It wouldn't let me exit Calibre with that error window open. I had to open task manager to shut down Calibre.

Never mind. It didn’t give me that error the second time. Updating my MTP driver didn’t help though.

Try calibre and plugging in your Kindle in safe mode and see how you get on. It could be something is interfering with your Kindle.
