Questions: KOReader and BOOX GO 7 Color

Hi!

I've just purchased the BOOX GO 7 Color, seeking to have a more flexible system, while still using my favorite reading app (KOReader).

After installing it, KOReader doesn't seem to be able to control screen brightness or warm light through gestures. Is there any way to fix this?

Also, is it possible for the BOOX to display the book's cover I'm reading in KOReader when locked?

Thanks!

Set up these Boox gestures:

Gestures -> Side -> turn on "Up-and-down Swipe Gestures".

I have set color for the left side and brightness for the right side. These gestures work in KOReader too. Simply run your finger over the outermost edge.

Thanks, that works! But I'm just realizing that the KOReader for Android doesn't allow for system commands as I had it on my Kobo Libra 2. Does this mean I won't be able to use KOReader taps and gestures for things such screen refresh, brightness adjustments and so on?

On another note (and perhaps connected to), KOreader doesn't seem to be triggered by the auto-rotate from the BOOX (it doesn't auto-rotate when I change orientation, even when it's on in the BOOX system). Anything I'm missing?

Simply use the Boox gesture control settings. These then also work in KOReader, for example swiping on the left side from bottom to top for a page refresh.

Switch on auto-rotate in the Boox system, tap and hold on the KOReader icon, select “Optimize” > "Others" > “Force to follow system orientation” on the context menu. Auto-rotate will then also work in KOReader.

Thanks again! I did that yesterday, and it allowed for it to rotate on portrait, but when I do it in landscape, it rotates but it changes the ration of the screen, so the app keeps the portrait orientation (with two black bars on each side of the screen). Is there any way to fix that?

Thanks!

Yes, to get rid of the black bars just tap on the small white symbol at the bottom right of the black bar. Landscape will then rotate properly, but in portrait orientation the black bars will reappear.

To change this, tap on the small white symbol again. Then portrait orientation will rotate properly.

It's annoying, but it works!

I was wondering why the android version of KOreader was so limited, but since I just got this Boox Go Color 7 It had to be some setting I was not turning on. (Mainly use my Kobo)

Thank you for the Tips!!
Thank You 😊

In KoReader' top menu > Cog icon > Screen > Cover image > check "Save cover image" > Set image path, click "Ok" >choose and long-press on folder Pictures (/storage/emulated/0/Pictures), press "Choose" > in window "Append filename" add "cover.png" (without quotes), click "Save". Open app "Screensaver" in Boox's Apps tab > Screensaver setting > Select image(s) > select image "cover" on Local tab.

When opening a new book, KoReader will overwrite the book cover into this file cover.png, which will be used as a Boox screensaver.

Has anyone cracked the use of the 8Bitdo Micro with the Boox Go Color II gen II in KOReader, please? I've been going through the TikTok guides, and the guides to using developer testing in KOReader, but so far I haven't managed to crack creating the lua config file, or even getting the micro to connect properly and stay connected using the 8Bitdo UltimateSoftware. I fear the problem may be in the cockpit, not the engine.

My bad replying to myself, but I have some tips for people failing to get the 8bitdo micro working with the Boox Go Color 7 gen II, with KOReader:

1. Update the controller itself. Some have very outdated software/firmware. That will solve most issues unless ...

2. If you want to use it with KOReader, use the following syntax to make your mapping script:

return {
[22] = "LPgBack",
[21] = "LPgFwd",
}

Save it as plain text file, but give it the name event_map.lua and save it in your KOReader/settings folder. Hopefully that will sort you out and save you spending the five hours I just spent piecing these things all together.

Happy reading!

Me, I just like doing that kind of stuff in /system/usr/keylayout files.
If you have Magisk or if you wholesale mod your system it's easy.
That way your buttons work across all your apps correctly.
