Kindle registration and Kindle for PC issues

Hello everyone,

I'm writing this post at the end of my wits, I genuinely don't know what's happening.

So trying to be clear :
- I gave my old kindle with buttons to my mother
- I had the hardest time registering it to her amazon account because somehow I needed to enter a code sent to me on my email (without the kindle saying anything other than the login was wrong).
- Now the kindle is indeed registered to her account but even with it being updated to the last version available for her model, I can't send books to it via the Amazon website.
On the reader itself, there is zero archive, no trace of any purchases.

And unrelated but in fact very related : I bought her a new ebook. Can't download it via kindle for pc without it asking for an update. Which I won't do because the whole point of using this trash is to get the file and dedrm it in calibre.

I hope I make even the slightest sense, any help appreciated.

Again, I hope this is not posted on the wrong forum and is at least barely understandable. Just spent two hours fighting with the kindle and my brain is mush.

Have you restarted the Kindle from the settings menu since you registered it?

My K4 wouldn't download any books or show anything in the archive either until I restarted it.

Oh thank you so much ! That seems to have fixed at least part of the issue. Silly me, not restarting the kindle when the option is so well hidden.

Now to understand why she has 300+ books in archive while she must be over 1000 on the amazon site, but that’s a detail as I dedrm everything.

The real test will be to download the book that try to force a kindle for pc update and see if I couldn’t simply import it from the kindle to calibre and thé dedrm it.

Select the "Sync & Check for Items" option. After restarting my Kindle, I have to do that two or three times before all my books will appear in the archive.

Thank you for this post, I too had a nightmare trying to re-register a 4th gen kindle. For anyone else who is having this predicament, you won't see the option to restart in any obvious place, you need to press the settings button, go into settings, then once in settings, press the settings button again and you will see the options to factory reset and restart.

When I tried registering, it kept telling me my account was not recognised in their records and to try a password reset. I tried my amazon account and my mum's and I had the same problem with both. That's because what the device will not tell you is that you need to go to your emails and find a one time password that you then need to put into the password field . After a long chat with an Amazon agent and me just randomly going to my email to delete the reset password link she sent, I saw a load of emails with a otp from amazon.

This finally got me registered and recognised. But then cam the problem of syncing my books. I tried a few times and it kept showing that I had 0 archived items. I went to the website and sent a book from my kindle library to my kindle manually. Still my kindle was empty. I then did a restart from the settings menu and when I switched it back on, sync finally started working. Anyway, it was a mission and a half but I finally got it working. I'm so grateful for my straightforward Kobo Libra 2.

Just thought I would mention for anyone in this situation that you should check not only your emails but your text messages as well. In my case, I received no email. Just a text message.

I had a hassle trying to register a Kindle Touch. I did finally do it. It's been registered for some time.

What I did with my mother when she had a Sony Reader was to put all of her eBooks on it for it. using a combination of Teamviewer and Skype. I would run calibre, send all the books to her laptop, import them into calibre, then I'd have her plug int he Sony, press the button on the screen to connect. Then I would send all of the eBooks to her Sony. I would delete any of the eBooks she had finished reading. Then I would eject and she would unplug and be good to go.

It meant I did not have to drive over to her place just to add some new eBooks to her Sony. I could also help her from home if she had a computer problem. It was a really good solution.
