Edward Dyson was the son of a Mining Engineer, and he grew up on goldfields in Victoria and Tasmania. In 1883 the family settled in Melbourne and he worked as a factory hand, and took to writing. This proved so successful that he soon became a full-time freelance writer under an ever-growing list of pseudonyms: Dy Edwardson; Ed Ward; Silas Snell; E.D.; Ward Edson; Eddyson; Billy T., and many more.

This second volume contains 36 short stories, from grim mining stories to light romance and humour.
