eBook Viewer not displaying math equations

While some simple mathematical formulae do display, many do not, although I know they're there since a greyed-out placeholder label "math" is shown and the surrounding text does indicate clearly there should be a formula there. Also, a little popup at the bottom left of the viewer window says "processing math: 0%" without progressing to a higher percentage on any reasonable time scale. I presume this means that MathJax is not working on my installation, which otherwise seems just fine. Using calibre 7.26 from FlatHub running on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Any advice on how to fix or at least trouble shoot this will be appreciated. Otherwise I guess I'll update to the latest Ubuntu version and see if that works ...

OK, I updated to 8.1.1 directly from the calibre web site, and it still doesn't work exactly as described above. So it's not a question of version, apparently.

This time I did notice, however, that before the "processing math: 0%" message popped up, a longer message was displayed for about 2 sec, which although I could not read it that fast seemed to say that something in "internal.sandbox/OPS/mathjax/jax/output" failed to load. I tried installing node-mathjax-full/noble using the Ubuntu "apt" package manager, but that didn't help.

In addition, when I open the epub file using the calibre ebook editor (not viewer), the equations display just fine.

Do not use distro packages, flathub builds and so on. Use only the official binaries from https://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux
