OBOK Issues

Hi all,

I'm a Kindle refugee, who would buy books, download them, strip the DRM & convert them to pubs to load on my Kobo. Now that Amazon's done the dirty on us, I've started buying books using the kobo app on os/x. Most of them convert OK with OBOK, but I've come across a few with that will do the table of contents OK, but the rest of the text is gibberish. This has happened with a few books in the Thomas Covenant series by Stephen Donaldson. I will admit the last time I logged into this forum was back in 2010, so things have clearly moved along a bit.

Don't use Obok or Kobo Desktop. Use the ACSM plugin and the alpa version of DeDRM. You can download ePub. If the eBook has DRM, you'll get the ACSM file which you then import into calibre. The ACSM plugin will get the ePub and import it into calibre and DeDRM will remove the DRM all on one easy step.

DeDRM - https://github.com/noDRM/DeDRM_tools_autorelease/tags

Could I get the names of the books that show this behaviour? I would like to see if I can duplicate this behaviour.

This is why I have a library for my source eBooks so I have them to refer to should I ever need to.

Relevance? How useful is your response to solving the issue?

Do you have the titles of any ebooks that show the issue that @shocking reports when using OBOK to remove the DRM?

I personally have not seen that happen with any of the ebooks I've purchased from Kobo which is why I asked for the titles.

It;s a suggestion for him to have a library that doesn't get any of the eBooks modified so he's easily have them to scramble to post as requested.

While I don't have any issues with wasting some space on extra copies since I currently have a 2TB main drive and a 4TB secondary drive (not to mention the near-line NAS), other people may not have the space to keep copies in storage for the rare occasion they might want to post an scrambled copy when they could simply download a fresh copy of the ebook file.

I figured it out - I'd only installed the Obok plugin from the 10.0.9 DeDRM download. Once I installed the DeDRM.zip as well, DeDRMing went find. I had an older version of DeDRM installed which worked on some of the Kobo books I'd bought earlier, so didn't think of it. Now that I've refreshed everything, it all works fince.

That would suggest that you were not actually using the OBOK plugin since it's code is independent from the DeDRM plugins code. Did you click on an OBOK icon in the toolbar and then use the list of books generated from either the desktop app or a connected ereader to select which books to import? Or were you adding ePubs using the Add books tool or dragging/dropping them on calibre?

Also note that a Kobo epub synced from Kobo which is what OBOK works on does not have an human readable filename, the filename looks much like a GUID such 0a7a1c48-c2d5-4b50-a177-a634110132e7.
