Another article on AI and lousy results
I was browsing and ran into this article: AI Search Has A Citation Problem
I was rather amused by the comment that "Premium chatbots provided more confidently incorrect answers than their free counterparts." Sounds like some consultants I've known. |

All that said, my experience with DeepSeek was extremely positive. I was trying to turn a web site into a PWA. There are a lot of web sites with tutorials on how to do this, but the ones I found seem to try too hard to explain everything. I just wants a cookbook--actual bips and bobs of code and instructions where to paste them.
DeepSeek did exactly that. And it worked. Probably the same cookbook is somewhere on the web and I could have found it with more searching, but the convenience of just asking DeepSeek was amazing. |

That's not what the article is about. It is pointing out that when using a GenLLM to research news topics instead of a general web search, the LLM will often give confidently incorrect answers without citations of sources, and paid versions are worse than free. A procedure on how to perform a list of tasks is a very different ask than "summarize $RECENT_TOPIC and give me the news articles used for that".
