Question Best budget used e-ink for jailbreak & full browser?

Some time ago after developing blue light sensitivity I dug out an old jailbroken Kindle Basic which I have enjoyed reading on as much as in more recent days tinkering with mods and extensions.

Despite how much more useful the KT2 is modified, ideally I would be able to use it for books and full web browsing, but some websites like twitter will not load with SkipStone. Running obsidian would be a bonus.

I have been keeping an eye on newer devices from Supernote and Boox for all of this, and to experiment with hand written notes, but I would get great satisfaction if I could squeeze most of what I want out of an older used device.

Is a used Paperwhite 3 and applying either of the following the way to go here or are there other devices or options I should consider before I buy?

Can run full blown Chromium browser on up-to-date Alpine Linux

Flash Android on an (aging) Kindle, and it's FREE!

Probably the most important limitation is the memory. Even recent Kindles have 512Mb RAM, which is more than enough for e-book reading, but very little for a recent browser.

The second thing to check is the refresh rate, which is okay for "tuning" pages, but too slow for scrolling.

So for browsing would be more interesting to check an e-ink tablet, maybe with Android. They have more memory, faster display, and adapted browser. Obsidian also runs on Android, without fiddling.

In the video of the PW3 running Alpine I saw the delay when browsing the web but some websites will not load at all on my KT2, and I may be able to get one for 10 times cheaper than the modern devices I mentioned. It might be a nice temporary solution, which I could repurpose in future when I settle on a more modern e-ink device I like, with root options and documented ways to negate 'phone home' issues if any.

Can you recommend any particular used Android e-ink readers I might find a good deal on, or is your advice to skip the older devices and just put the money towards something newer?

No eink, even Android, are much good with a browser. I've used mobile Chrome and Firefox on Android eink. Abysmal.

Decent ereaders don't need a jailbreak (i.e. Kobo, Pocketbook, Onyx Boox).

Best thing for PW3 is to buy Amazon books on it, (or use it with other ebooks, as is, if you have no other eink ereader).

Edit:
Don't buy any Kindle if not intending to buy Amazon ebooks.

The only practical option is probably Boox. Supernote is intended for writing; its reader software is limited, and you don't have access to Google Play. Onyx is known for putting out new devices constantly, so you have many Boox options to choose from, depending on whether you want a 6, 8, 10, or 13" screen.
