Possible to unregister after WinterBreak?
I know you need to be registered to use WB. After jailbreaking is there any problem with deregistering?

I cannot say if you can unregister your Kindle. But there's really no reason to do so. D&T is gone so if you ever want to purchase eBooks from Amazon, you'd need it registered. I multiple registered Kindles and I have no issue with them at all.

Thanks DNSB. 1 is a better sample size than 0!
To JSWolf's point, I should clarify: I'm not asking whether I'll be able to access services that require an Amazon account. Or whether there's any reason to deregister; I have my own answer to that question. I'm asking whether, as someone who'll hopefully be spending all their time in KOReader, I can expect any issues like system crashes, slowdowns, or other real problems specifically as a result of having deregistered. FWIW, you'll still need to exit KOReader to use USB for file transfer. Despite being a feature in KOReader it specifically does not work on Kindles.

Yup, I know
![]() I'm asking a specific question: does deregistering after WinterBreak mess anything up stability- or performance-wise? Aside from accessing account-based Amazon services, which I won't be using. Hoping someone here has tried it ![]() Last edited by aha; 03-04-2025 at 01:08 AM. |

I've deregistered my kindle through the website, but the device didn't notice (though downloads didn't work anymore).
I then deregistered on the device - had to reinstall KUAL after that, but otherwise I haven't run into any problems. Minor Downsides: The Home tab is now just a "please register" thing. And the Library tab opens a popup saying "Cloud not Available" every time you click on it. Last edited by dsip; 03-06-2025 at 04:41 PM. |

The person I chatted with you unregistered his Kindle after the jailbreak has pretty much the same experience. OTOH, they say they were expecting this since it pretty much matches the unregistered non-jailbroken Kindle experience.

Update, having now deregistered post-jailbreak:
Everything in your documents folder is deleted. (To be fair, you get a warning about this when you opt to deregister.) This means that not only do any sideloaded books get deleted, but so does the KUAL "book". So as dsip said, you have to do the ;log mrpi step again. After that KUAL should be available again with all the previously installed extensions. So far, KOReader seems to be working normally. The hotfix "book" also disappears and I'm not sure whether or not that means you have to reapply the hotfix. |
