				importing saved searches

Working on improving the access to footnotes, I devised a Regex which worked well on my MacBook and I saved it in the Saved Searches. Later, I wanted to run the same regex on my linux box and ended up copying the 'sigil_searches_v6.ini' file from the MacBook to the linux box, lifted the regex from it and pasted it into the Find box of Sigil's F&R window. It was immediately obvious that it required editing to remove lots of '\' escapes - then it worked fine and I saved it into the Linux Sigil saved searches. Is there a way to import saved searches directly? Can I just copy & paste the four lines for each item from one file to the other without damaging the receiving file? |

			1. close Sigil on both systems! 2. create backup "sigil_searches_v6.ini" on both systems 3. copy every four lines for every searches that you need. 4. paste in target system to "sigil_searches_v6.ini" four lines. 5. renumber the numbers at the beginning of the four lines 6. search in file "size=XXX" and substitute for XXX the last (maximum) number from the beginning of the line (that is, insert the number saved "Searches"). I hope I described it clearly. |

Use right click menu in Saved Searches to export selected saved searches to csv file. Move csv file to Linux box and use right click in Saved Searches to read in your csv file. You can easily edit those csv files and save in spreadsheets too if you like. |

Oh, I had completely forgotten about it. Thank you for the reminder. You can import directly from the INI file and then delete unnecessary entries. But I've manually changed that file many times over the years, even when it wasn't saved in UTF-8 yet, and it always worked. |
