Extra line breaks inserted in Comments section when adding books

At some point this year a calibre update changed something with the way calibre deals with the Comments section. It is peculiar - here is what happens;

1. I add a book (format does not seem to matter).
2. Inside the Edit Metadata window I paste in the book description from somewhere (Amazon or Goodreads).
3. I move to a different book with Edit Metadata still open or close Edit Metadata.
4. calibre adds an extra line break between every paragraph, which I then have to go back into Edit Metadata and delete manually.
5. I grumble ineffectually

Can anyone explain how to stop this behavior with calibre?

Of course, after I post is when I finally find this message. I am having some of the same issues! I did find that unchecking the convert to plain text helped with SOME books, but not all. It's like the formatting doesn't exist or got changed? I would rather have an extra line break than none at all!

Try clicking on the "HTML Source" tab below the comments to see what is going on. When you download metadata, or copy something in from a web page, you can get who knows what coding along with the text.
I often have to edit the html to fix really weirdly formatted comments, usually just by removing tags.
Also try the "Comments Cleaner" plugin, that often helps.
