Calibre shortcuts using Num Keys not working for me

Don't know if this is happening to anyone else:

I'm try to assign a shortcut key to a Calibre function using keys from my Num Pad keys. Example:

1. Open the Shortcuts settings and expand the section for Edit Metadata.
2. Under "Edit Metadata in Bulk" it states "Shortcuts: None"
3. Double-click to expand "Edit Metadata in Bulk" section
4. Select "Custom"
5. Click on "None" button to the right of "Shortcut:"
6. Button text changes to "Press a key..."
7. Press 8 on Num Keypad
8. Button text changes to "Num8"
9. Click "Done" button which collapses "Edit Metadata in Bulk" section
10. Under "Edit Metadata in Bulk" it now states "Shortcuts:" [blank] Hmm...
11. Double-click to expand "Edit Metadata in Bulk" section to double check
12. Button to the right of "Shortcut:" is now blank [no text]
13. Click Apply to exit Shortcuts settings
14. New shortcut key does nothing

Repeating the above steps using any key from the alpha portion of keyboard works as intended.

Is your Keyboard OTHER than a En-US layout?

No. It is a standard USA layout (Nuphy 96 key)

What OS and which version

On Windows 10 and calibre 7.25. Amongst others, I use Shift+Numpad-Del for Remove Book, Ctrl+Numpad-PgDn, Ctrl+Numpad-PgUp for Find-Duplicates Next / Previous Result etc.

Is Numlock on or off ? If it's off when you press the 8 key its an UpArrow.

I'm running Calibre 7.26 on macOS 13.7.4 on a Mac Studio M1 Ultra
I use a Nuphy Air key keyboard. It has a Mac/Win switch on the back that is set to Mac. The "Num lock" key does nothing with this hardware/OS version

It's likely an issue with the hardware and Qt compatibility. Sadly I no longer have a mac keyboard with a numpad so I cant test it myself. I suggest you stick to using non numpad based shortcuts.

Hi Kovid,

I'm a bit skeptical of it being a hardware issue. It obviously recognizes the correct key was pressed during the initial training as witnessed by the button label changing to reflect the new shortcut key value between steps 6 & 8 in my example above. The problem seems to be when you click "Done" the value isn't being saved properly.

I didnt say it was a hardware issue. I said its an issue between the hardware and Qt the toolkit calibre uses. The two are not compatible, for whatever reason. Numpad keys work fine on other platforms. macOS + that hardware doesnt, this is something that happens in layers below calibre code, so its not something that can be fixed in calibre. And its certainly not something that can be fixed without access to the hardware/platform in question.

I found this: https://forum.qt.io/topic/131922/can...d-with-qt-apps. It is about Linux but the Mac might have a similar problem.

Of possible interest: on my Windows machine, in step 8 I see "Num+8", not "Num8". If you really saw "Num8" then that is part of the problem because "Num8" isn't a valid key.
