Installing older calibre version 4.23.0 does not work (linux)

Dear all,

I tried to install calibre version 4.23.0 in Linux (before I had a newer one where the DeDRM does not work) as recommended via:

sudo -v && sudo calibre-uninstall && wget -nv -O- https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.sh | sudo sh /dev/stdin version=4.23.0

However, when I do it, I cannot open Calibre at all anymore. When I check with -apt list --installed, I get the following information:
calibre-bin/stable,now 6.13.0+repack-2+deb12u4 amd64 [Installiert,automatisch]
calibre/stable,stable,now 6.13.0+repack-2+deb12u4 all [installiert]


So, do you have any idea how I can get 4.23.0 running?

If you are doing a binary install apt has nothing to do with it. Uninstall your distro calibre package and then install the binary.

OK, thanks a lot... I will need to retry... when I installed latest calibre and latest De-DRM end of December//early January, it did not work.

Thanks. That means, there is somehow another calibre package installed, which I cannot open. I would unistalll this via: sudo -v && sudo calibre-uninstall ... but how to install the binary?

If you used a repository to get calibre, then that would be why it failed.

Dear Kovidgoyal,

I got rid of this distro calibre package and installed the binary as above: Calibre 7.0.26. Then DeDRM 10.0.3... and I still get this message.

Now I used the debug-mode and got the following message - see below. In any case, early January, I also tried to install DeASCM as a solution, however, maybe I did it wrong with the Adobe Keys, and this also might be a reason why it does not work? T

Any help would be great, as I already spent hours a few weeks ago to find a solution (De ASC, different versions, calibre portable version which always "disappeard" in Linux and did not work ....) and now I tried again and have no idea. his is the only application I use and I did not get running in Linux...

I understand, that the logfile is too long... for the future: how can I wrap this file into a "spoiler tag"?

With the DeACSM, it unfortunately also does not work... anyway, I now found "Adobe EPUB DRM Removal" and this seems to work somehow via Wine, so that I can then transfer the de-drmed files to Calibre...

Little workaround... I hope, that this solution will now work longer than any trial period. Let's see..
