No Compatible Device - Download for Transfer via USB

I just purchased an 11th generation Kindle so that I can backup my Kindle books to a PC. What is the last Kindle device that will allow me to backup to my PC? Are there any other workarounds?

I don't want Amazon deciding that the books I purchased are no longer appropriate and stop allowing me to download them to my device through their own cloud service.

There are two issues here.

1. 2024 Kindles do not have D&T.
2. D&T is going to be removed at of Feb 26.

Read this thread especially the first post.

I have an 11th gen PW. For the last several months I have received the "No Compatible Device" warning when purchasing a book. It gives me the option to proceed with the purchase anyway which I can do (for the time being) without issue. Not sure this is your issue but I thought I would mention it if so.

By the way I can still D&T to my 11th gen just fine. Of course, that will end shortly.

You say just purchased? Did you purchase a new one from Amazon...are you sure it was 11th gen?

edit: I stand corrected on generations vs. years.

The question still remains...which device did you purchase? Because if you just purchased it, depending on which model it is, it may be 12th gen or it may be 11th gen.

2024 models are not all 12th gen. The basic Kindle and the Scribe were both updated for 2024 but both are still 11th gen. Generation is not the deciding factor, being released in 2024 is.

Fixed gen.

Kindle Scribe was originally 'Kindle Scribe (1st generation)' but they seem to have dropped this generation stuff for it and now it is just Kindle Scribe - 2022 Release and Kindle Scribe - 2024 Release. I suspect if and when there is some future Scribe model that merits it, there will be a 2nd Generation one. They want to brand it as a separate product line, much like Apple does with iPad/iPad Air/iPad mini/iPad Pro (each of which have independent 'generations').

In any case it was never, and is not now, an 11th generation Kindle, according to Amazon.

It's 11th generation within the generations of Kindles even if Amazon doesn't refer to it like that, but 1st generation within the generations of Scribe. Until the most recent few years generation aligned almost to the number of years since the release of the original Kindle. Now Amazon seems to be dividing it by hardware design with little regard to years. Skipping releasing any Kindles in 2023 would have messed up that ordering, but they'd also skipped 2008 and 2020.

Kindle Scribe 1st generation - 2024 release

Kindle (11th Generation) - 2024 release.

Editing my thoughts.

Kindle Scribe 1st generation - 2024 release

Kindle (11th Generation) - 2024 release.
Yes, I was just looking at Updates page. The non-Scribes do not have a generation there currently.

Odd. The Scribes (2022 and 2024) are the only devices I see that do not have a generation. Most likely a mistype?

The Kindle I purchased this morning from Target says Gen 11 / 16 GB. ChatGPT returns a release date of October 2022. I bought it specifically to be able to download and back up my books before Feb 26th. Thank you for the quick reply.

Thank you. I usually purchase from my iPhone or iPad. I'm strictly looking to be able to download my Kindle Books to my PC for backup. Amazon states that I don't have a compatible device to download and transfer by USB.

I purchased it from Target this morning. The Amazon Kindle package says Gen 11 / 16 GB. ChatGPT states that this device came out in October 2022. Maybe my Kindle Device was still manufactured in 2024.

Thank you. I guess there is no way of knowing when a device was manufactured before purchasing. At least I will never find one before Feb 26th. Is there any other workaround to get Amazon to allow me download my books for USB transfer without an older device?

You did register it to your Amazon account, yes? The same account used to purchase the books?

Does it say "no compatible device" for all your books or only some of them? What kind of books are they (novels, manga, comics etc.)?

This thread tells how to determine manufacture date from the serial number, which is usually printed on the outside of the box.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=338766

Models released 2024 or later can not be used for download and transfer over USB.
