Difficulty with TOC
I'm having a lot of difficulty with creating a TOC that works for me. Please help if you can.
I want it to be like this (the __ are SPACES I am just rushing to get this out before I go to our Missions conference at church tonight) THE OLD TESTAMENT __GENESIS __EXODUS __LEVITICUS .... THE NEW TESTAMENT __MATTHEW __MARK __LUKE I don't need the chapter titles to expand, just the OT and NT headers. But I can't get it to work properly. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Kindle Previewer keeps erroring on this: Type | Description ------------------- Error E24011: TOC section scope is not included in the parent chapter: GENESIS Error E24001: The table of content could not be built. Status:Book conversion failed I don't know what to do to fix it. In other words, the OT and NT are headings with dropdowns for the individual chapters... Thank you for any assistance. If you are using Sigil's auto ToC generator it should automatically create those indents/expansions.
Just use Tools/Table of Contents/Generate Table of Contents (Ctrl-T) and it will automagically create the ToC which you can then edit as needed. It basis that creation on your proper use of heading tags <h1-6> to denote the hierarchy within the document. for example: Code:
<h3>THE OLD TESTAMENT</h3> <h4>GENESIS</h4> <h5>Chapter 1</h5> <h5>Chapter 2</h5> ... <h4>EXODUS</h4> <h5>Chapter 1</h5> <h5>Chapter 2</h5> ... <h4>LEVITICUS</h4> <h5>Chapter 1</h5> <h5>Chapter 2</h5> ... <h3>THE NEW TESTAMENT</h3> <h4>MATTHEW</h4> <h5>Chapter 1</h5> <h5>Chapter 2</h5> ... <h4>MARK</h4> <h5>Chapter 1</h5> <h5>Chapter 2</h5> ... <h4>LUKE</h4> <h5>Chapter 1</h5> <h5>Chapter 2</h5> ... |

I've pursued other options. Please delete this thread if necessary.

Well I just decided to use a flattened TOC instead of nesting the OT and NT headers.
(oh well) So nothing exciting really. |

The benefit of using the <h> tags, instead of <p class="newchapter"> (or somesuch), is that reading devices/apps can pick up on the standard, and semantically correct, markup for their proper functionality (eg disability or text-to-speech software)... and the editing process (Sigil or Calibre) can use automated tools to make your life MUCH easier. ![]() Cheers! P.S. Just in case you were wondering if I could work in a few more commas,,,,,,, ![]() |
