When I close Sigil with the "X" in the title bar and then open Sigil, the preview window also opens.(which is my desired behavior...)
If I close Sigil through "File", "Quit" I have to open the preview window manually - which I think is the default behavior? Why this difference, doesn't clicking the "X" and using the menu option do the same job? I haven't noticed this before, the preview window has always opened when I start Sigil. But now I use a script (AHK) that opens and closes Sigil, and when closing it uses "File", "Quit" the preview window is gone next time Sigil start. Just a keystroke to bring it up (F10) but I was just wondering about this difference. |

Use View menu to set your preferences on which windows to open on launch.

Now it looks like it is remembered - so hopefully it will continue like that. Thanks for the answer anyway! |

My guess is your script AHK is the culprit. Sigil always starts up with Preview showing if checked in View unless you have detached it and possibly moved it to another monitor.
It works like that from the X or using File Quit. Closing Sigil is when the settings are updated. So the settings that are remembered are when you close the very last open Sigil MainWindow if you are on a Mac or you have multiple instances of Sigil launched on Linux or Windows. So I would look to see if your script is doing something strange when either starting up Sigil or closing it. Last edited by KevinH; 01-24-2025 at 05:04 PM. |

The strange thing is that it does not have the same behavior every time. |

Yes if you close a floating QDockWidget (technically hiding it from visibility) then exit the app (assuming only one instance of Sigil is running) Sigil should remember that state and geometry of that QDockWidget Window when exiting Sigil. And when restoring it that way (hidden) when relaunched (just like it will restore a floating QDockWidget that is left open (assuming the monitor it was on is still available).
