Note Max
Correlating available info on the soon-to-be-released Note Max...
It's 13.3" 3200 x 2400, 300 DPI Carta 1300 without front light. It will run Android 13, have 128 GB flash and no SD card. I guess that this will make somebody happy? Having a front light would also have drawbacks too. But not having an SD card? |

I like the looks of it. I'm happy it doesn't have a frontlight. But the small battery, the lack of an SD card slot and the plastic corpus is making me hesitate.
On the other hand I've been waiting for a white/gray 13" e-ink tablet with 300PPI for ages, so I might go for it. |

I'm a big fan of Carta 1300. The slight increase in contrast is worthwhile to me.
This is the first 13.3" 300 DPI I've seen. Err, I haven't seen it yet. But I do have a Lenovo 13.3" laptop which fills this niche for me. |

I'll pass on the Note Max, but will definitely purchase a Tab-X-2 if released in 2025. Too many situations where a front light is needed to see the screen ... which is why the Note Max is a no-go.

I'm personally extremely excited by it. A4 + Carta 1300 + BSR? yes please. also worried about battery but they seem to have made quite a few optimizations lately to take care of this, judging by the NA4C's battery life tests, and it looks like the Note Max will have the best CPU we have seen in a Boox device yet (with the possible exception of the TUCP) because it is "2.8GHz," while still being licensed for Android 13, so I would imagine it's a 6nm chip with a relatively low TDP and relatively low static power consumption.

It looks like it has a usb-c port though.
What I don't get is that the Note Max is thinner than the Tab X, yet weighs more. As it's a 13.3" tablet with Carta 1300 and is cheaper than the Tab X, it might be worth it. https://shop.boox.com/products/notemax |

It could hardly be otherwise. In Europe:

interesting. I wonder if they put some steel or something in strategic places to keep it strong.

No front light? Meh, I'll keep sticking with my Max Lumi, still the best large e-reader from Onyx. Front light, long battery life, still enough compute power for reading pdf's. Can't believe they still haven't improved on it, they're releasing products with reduced feature sets and shorter battery life

people are starting to receive Note Maxes that they ordered in October, but I think only in Hong Kong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbQnE0gy-b0

I pre-ordered mine from B&H the day that they created the listing -- was watching it like a hawk.
I haven't received it yet, obviously. I'm starting to have some doubts after the whole AI thing, but I was already planning to sandbox it and air-gap it as much as possible, so I think it'll be OK -- I definitely don't plan to log into my primary gmail account with it, so I'll sideload everything via f-droid, possibly Aurora (not sure if I can download packages from Aurora on my laptop directly w/o giving the device network access, but if I need to I'll give it a separate isolated VLAN on my home network and revoke all access via the router after any updates, etc -- I just hope that doesn't prevent me from using the screen sharing feature, which I was looking forward to using) I'm happy to have a no-frontlight device. My use cases are notes at my well-lit desk, some journaling where I can easily use a lamp, sheet music where I already have a light on my music stands and piano, and reading large format PDF technical books, which I don't do in bed anyhow. ![]() |

I also just wish I knew what the status is with the keyboard folio. It feels like they are drifting away from including it in their marketing and as far as I know no one has been presented with the option of purchasing one when they bought their Note Max. I purchased mine in one of the brief windows when the Boox Amazon store had it available but there was no keyboard available then either. |

well, I have my Note Max. any ideas as to what loader to use for rooting? it's essentially the same machine SoC-wise as the TUCP but I can't find anything for that either. this: https://www.reddit.com/r/LGV60/comme...ng_bootloader/ is the same SoC but that loader didn't work with Renate's EDL tool.
