Hello.

First of all, I apologize if it is not the right thread or subforum.

I come to ask for help, because I am really desperate.

A few days ago I bought a kindle scribe on a used goods buying and selling website.

The salesperson only said that the scribe was stuck on the child's screen and the tree, so I thought it would be fixed quickly by doing a hard reset or something, and that the salesperson just didn't know about computers.

I have received the scribe, and there is no way to register it with any Amazon account, or to continue beyond that.

I've read about this, and I've discovered that it's on a blacklist of stolen Kindles, which I find strange, because, how can it be stolen if I have the box, the pen, cable, instructions... all???

Anyway, the Kindle came out at a very, very good price, so if there is any possibility of making it work and use it, I would like to keep it.

I'm really desperate. I didn't know this could happen.

Is there a way I can use it? Can you help me? Please, I beg you to help me.

I've read things about jailbreak, but they're too technical, and also my English isn't very good (I'm using a translator) and I don't understand anything. Also, I imagine that the scribe will have been updated only to the latest version and will be of no use. I'm desperate

You will not get any help with a blacklisted Kindle. The only thing you can do is try to get your money back.

Jailbreak can't be done on later FW or on later kindles that don't boot.

The registration is involving an account at Amazon, so jailbreaking can't undo blacklisting, just enable some functionality.

Likely the Scribe was faulty and Amazon supplied a warranty replacement and blacklisted original to save return cost.

The seller told you it was stuck, so you made an assumption and wasted your money.

Yes, I bought the Kindle thinking it was a bargain, and that I could solve it, but at no time did anyone comment that it was on a list for being "stolen".

I came here with a problem, looking for a solution, nothing more.

Anyway, I will continue looking for a solution.

A Scribe is useless without being registered with an Amazon account. It requires one to complete set up. If it's blacklisted then you can't register it. Sure, you might not have stolen it yourself but there's nothing you can do about the device except get your money back from the seller for fraud.

A blacklisted Kindle should never be sold. But unfortunately lots of blacklisted Kindles are sold. The worst place to get a Kindle is eBay.

They are also blacklisted if replaced due to being faulty, under warranty, as that saves the cost of shipping it back.

It's probably useless. But as the seller said it was stuck, you've not much grounds to complain.

This behaviour (device being stuck on that screen with the tree and the child) is known as the "tree screen of death". In most cases, the only thing that you can do with a device like this is to trade it in for a 20% discount for a new Kindle. That's how my Kindle has died as well.

You can google "kindle tree screen of death" next time before buying a device like this.
