Duplicating Calibre Setup On New Machine

I am initiating a new MacBook Air and want to duplicate my setup on my old MacBook (both running Calibre 7.22 and MacOS Sequoia 15.1.1). I have a lot of plugins, bookshelves, etc. on the old machine and would rather not set the two machines up side by side and try to match the new to the old (though obviously I will if I have to).

Is there a setup or configuration file I can copy from one to the other to make this process at least a little easier? I'm not really sure what search terms to use to search the Calibre forums.

Thanks!

I am replicating my desktop Calibre setup and library onto my new laptop. I followed the export / import process, and while the library came across just fine, the plugins and program settings did not.

Can this be due to different folder names on the desktop vs laptop? Some other issues which are preventing the plugins and settings from transferring? Any troubleshooting tips?

TIA
Ed

  1. Use the Preferences_>Miscellaneous->Open calibre configuration folder button to determine the location of calibre's configuration data on both systems.
  2. Quit calibre on both systems.
  3. Replace the contents of the configuration folder on the new system with the contents of the configuration folder from the old system.
Calibre on the new system should now be okay with your settings, plugins, customisation etc.

I don't export as exporting is not nearly as easy as using FreeFileSync. With FreeFileSync, I only have to copy what's been updated, changed, or new since the last copy/sync.

Jon,

I use FFS as well to backup my HD to my NAS. Using FFS to synchronize 2 computers on the same network is a great idea. Do you sync the library folder (and all subfolders) and the App data application settings folder, or is there some other folders to sync?
TIA

Just just sync the preferences and the libraries. That's all that's needed to be synced.
