Cover thumbnails on new Kindles

I got new Paperwhite 12 and it is only available with new MTP interface over USB so I started to move my books over. I use sideloading over USB for a lot of books and naturally I started to move AZW3 and KFX files with accompanying thumbnails when I noticed that for "documents" moving thumbnails is not really necessary (despite the fact that I could still access system/thumbnails folder over MTP). Kindle (I am running 17.0.4 firmware) seems to be perfectly capable now of extracting (and showing) thumbs itself. Tried to search trough forums, but so far failed to find any related discussion.

I am looking for confirmation of this from other people - hoping that I am not crazy.

Extracting cover thumbnails from personal documents has been a feature of e-ink Kindles since firmware version 5.15.1 released in 2022.

Basically, I found that the books have to be flagged as PDOC. For azw3 you can use a utility to do that. I chose to convert to KFX, as that can be done during the calibre conversion process. (I didn't know any more about this until a short time ago when I bought my Scribe, and had to piece it all together for myself, so don't feel bad).
