Kobo Wireless N647 Not Finding epubs From External SD Card

I recently purchased a Kobo Wireless N647, it has firmware version 1.9.12, but I do not currently have a mini usb cable that has data lines. I tried loading epubs onto an SD card(32GB, FAT32 format) directly, and then tried again through calibre, and plugging that into the device, and each time it registers that an SD card has been inserted, and it says it is processing new content, but after loading is complete, the books do not show up. Is there a certain way I need to be loading books onto the external SD card, or possibly an older version of calibre I should be using(I am using the latest version)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A quick question is if you are copying books into a subdirectory on the root of the SD card or directly into the root?

Try placing them in a subdirectory (give it a short name such as eBooks). The root directory has a limited number of directory entries and since long file names chew up multiple entries, you can rapidly run into issues.

Gave it a try, no dice. I guess I'll just wait for a mini usb to arrive by mail and give that a try.
