Books with diacritics in file names
Calibre removes diacritic marks from non-English (here, Polish) file names while sending books to a device - is there a way to prevent this? Not that it is an issue, I'd just rather have files have identical names as my backup copies on a PC.

As far as I know, you can not disable sanitizing the file names to maximize operating system compatibility.
