Best way to edit metadata on import, if possible?

Good evening. I messed up big time and while switching to a new computer, I lost my entire library. I exported the library, wiped my old computer, set up the new computer, went to import the library, and the file was corrupted. So...I lost everything.

I've gone through the painstaking task of trying to recover all the books I can manually. I've got about 200 files I'm ready to import into a fresh copy of Calibre on my new computer. I'm hoping...hoping...hoping that there is some easy way to update the metadata for each book as Calibre imports it?

If possible, I'd love it to automatically match each book with the correct author, title, series, cover image, etc., and to do it as it imports the books. Is this even possible, and if so, what do I need to do to make it happen?
