Edit -> File Preview is dark

Hello All,

I'm getting my niece involved with Calibre and she asked me about the file preview window in the edit function.

I tried to post an image, but I'm doing something wrong. The background is grey, and the text is a lighter grey instead of white.

And frankly, I've never seen that before. I don't do much editing tho.

Can anyone shed light on what's happening?

Is this a default Calibre install? What OS? What Calibre version?
Is she using any color theme in the OS? (Dark, Light, weird-ish

Rather than try an existing book, Launch the Editor from the Start Menu.
(A new book has no colors specified) If that is OK, the book did something dumb (like Grey on Gray)

Windows 11, the latest Calibre.

This is not the first book she has tried to edit—all other books look normal, with a dark background and white text.

I didn't know the editor could be launched separately, but I will tell her.

She is somewhat shy and I'm trying to get her to join here...but.

I'm far from an expert in stylesheets, but maybe something is wrong there?

Well, she found the problem in the CSS, all the "color" values were set to color: #231f20 which is some kind of dark grey.

She's much better at this than me as she is a programmer.

Ah, you found it before I got here. The quickest way I have found to undo this issue is to use the Convert Books item on the menubar, and set Look & Feel > Styling > completely remove {x} Colors.

Be aware this is a 'Nuke It' method and could also take out desired uses. I prefer to (when doing bulk) comment out unwanted styles so I have a chance to see and redo the desired color uses.

Lots of eBooks are poorly coded.

It could be a house style sheet saved with the garbage in it and use for new eBooks.
