The mystery of the Shrinking columns
Hello @kovidgoyal,

Updated to v7.2 a few days ago and noticed that columns in the book list keep shrinking. Possibly a side effect of the fix for the shrinking character box?

There is a plugin to let you set column sizes. I used it when there was an issue with calibre losing the column sizes. Problem is, I forget the name.

As for 7.2, I've no problem with Windows and column sizes.

One way this problem is triggered is by View Manager's set view at startup option. See the posts in the View Manager thread starting here. There might be other ways to trigger it.

A fix for what the View Manager triggers is in calibre source.

Good to know, I hadn't updated Calibre from 7.1 yet and now I'm not going to until the next release.

I installed the latest code from GitHub and the first time I ran from source, it did horrible things to my screen layout (basically, the main library window, Tab browser and Book details used about 33% of the screen width each). Dragged the Tab browser and Book details windows back to their usual sizes and they seem to have decided to stick there even when I switch from install to development and back.

Yes, the code to migrate the old size settings to the new layout system isnt fully bulletproof, so you might have to do a one time readjustment of the sizes. This should help: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...4512a9fe5e7f9a

Yep, already using the View Manager plugin. I use it to start up with a saved search so when I start Calibre it only shows my list of books to be read.

Thanks @chaley, so it's a know problem. I would never have guessed it was caused by a plugin.
I'll look forward to the next Calibre release.
