k4 rear contact pins charging?
Hi, does anyone know if the two rear contact pins on a k4 can be used to charge the device?
I have picture frames using kindles, but the usb socket is in an awkward place for using in frames. I note that there are 2 contact pins on the back - has anyone used these to charge a kindle? My understanding is that these are used for supplying power to lights etc Thanks |

They are only for powering an external light. They only come active when the Kindle is powered on. If you want to use them for charging then you'd have to significantly modify the Kindle. At that point, you might as well make your own dedicated pads in a different location. It'd be a lot easier than trying to modify the Kindle board itself.

A connector makes more sense as it needs opened to do that. Wireless charging is a "fashion". It's actually inductive, less efficient, less reliable, can create interference and still needs a cable from about the same place.
Far easier to add a connector wired across the USB connections if the USB connector is at an unsuitable place. it's also possible to use a minimalist USB plug by buying the plug or dismembering a cable and wiring up the connections with only a dab of glue (or epoxy) as the plug cover so it hardly sticks out past the case.
