How are you saving to disk? Just copying the files from the calibre library or using calibre's save to disk? calibre's save to disk will modify and update the metadata in the output file while unless you use Polish or ModifyEpub, the files in the calibre library will not be modified.

Well, I'll disagree. My Save to disk does not change the eBook except for the filename.

The way to do it is to put the library on the flash drive, open it in the wife's computer and copy to her library.

Then you have unchecked the "Update metadata in saved copies" option in Preferences / Saving books to disk.

You are saving to disk in what format? Note that only EPUB and PDF support series metadata.

Yes I have because I have no need for metadata to be updated on a save. I can do it in the editor by hand and not have any conversion artifacts.
