adding .prc books to Calibre supported?

I attempted today to add a .prc book to Calibre via the "Add Book" dialog and it stalled at the "Adding Metadata" dialog box, so I had to cancel it. I found that the book had not been added.

Is adding a .prc format book supported? I handled this particular case by using ebook-convert to create a .azw3 format version that I was able to add, but that took a fair bit of time and I have a number of .prc books I might want to add.

Prc is supported. I have some books originally in .prc, bought more than 10 years ago.

"Adding Metadata" dialog box - I've never seen such a thing.

I just added a .PRC (no DRM) to my Test library via drag-drop into the book list, Add from a single folder, and via Windows Send To - no sign of any "Add Metadata" dialogue.

Yes, .prc is supported. However I think sometimes ones from Amazon need renamed .mobi or .azw (not azw3). I can't remember exactly, but I have had to rename some "drm free" ebooks from Amazon that were not azw3.

PRC is a container, not a format. Some Palm formats are broken in Calibre since version 5.

Yes, but most .prc and all from Amazon are ebooks.
The two pdb formats used for ebooks are Palm. The prc is a development of pdb. Any Mobipocket .prc will actually be a .mobi. The non-ebook prc files are for PDAs / PalmOS and now rare and I can't see how they would ever have worked with Mobipocket Reader (Palm OS, WinCE, Symbian, PC etc) or Calibre. Mobipocket on Palm OS can read either of the ebook formats using pdb files (which Calibre can make, as I tested them on a Palm Z22 PDA).
