Epub to KFX : losing justified text, and syncing across multiple devices ?

The first question is I am able to do a conversion from a source file which is EPUB and the output being KFX but it seems that even if I leave the layout as original and or use justified in the conversion settings I lose the justify text alignment.

I verified that if I move the source EPUB to the device I still have justified text but something is happening I think during the conversion process which is causing me to lose the justified text

Is there a way to retain both the ability to select justified text and left aligned ragged right text during an KFX conversion

Why are we doing KFX conversions versus placing the epub on the device ? More reading features like page numbers x-ray etc ?

If I simply use calibre to move the epub to the device does that work ? Or no ? Do I need to use the send to kindle Mac app?

Also is there anyway to get the "x people highlighted this passage" or does side loading prevent this feature?

Finally if I send over a KFX format to my scribe it means I will no longer be able to sync that book progress across other kindle clients like on my Samsung phone or tablet ?

If your EPUB looks exactly how you want, turn off everything in the conversion settings that messes with the formatting. So, check "Disable font size rescaling", and uncheck "enable heuristic processing", set "Text justification" to "Original", etc.

The CSS I use for my EPUB has justified body text, but when I convert to KFX and sideload to the Kindle, I can choose the ragged-right option and it changes the display as expected.

You should have the ability to switch between justified and ragged right in the Aa menu on the Kindle. If that isn't working then either the CSS formatting of original EPUB or the conversion settings are forcing the text alignment.

Kindle devices do not natively support EPUB. Conversion to a supported format is required. That can be done either by you or by Amazon's servers.

You can have calibre transfer a supported Kindle format (not EPUB) to your device over USB or you can use one of the send-to-kindle methods. Using send-to-kindle will cause Amazon to convert and deliver the book. There are advantages and disadvantages to either approach.

Personally I use send-to-kindle because I switch between multiple reading devices and that keeps them in sync and also provides backup for the current reading position and any bookmarks or annotations that I might create. Getting page numbers or x-ray requires USB sideloading instead, but those are unimportant to me.

That "popular highlights" feature will only work for books obtained and delivered by Amazon. You can't get that using your own EPUB as a starting point.

Yes, books sideloaded via USB do not sync between devices.

Since you own a Scribe you should be aware that send-to-kindle automatically delivers books in KFX format to Scribe devices. That is done because the handwritten annotations features of the Scribe only work for KFX.

So there is little or no advantage in doing your own conversion to KFX and sideloading it to a Scribe. In fact the Scribe's annotation features may not work properly if you do so.

I agree that sending via the 'Send to Kindle' is the right option but it seems like I get the covers on the Scribe (source ePub DOES have a cover) but not on the Android devices.

Is this expected? Am I doing something wrong.
