I accidentally converted a book from epub to epub. When I go into edit book to edit the new epub, everything in the html markup is extensively renamed and reorganized, probably in a very standard way. I spent a very long time -- days -- creating my original epub, using my own chapter names and preferred syntax. Is there any way (fingers crossed) of reverting back to my original epub syntax? The format column in calibre shows original_epub as a format, but it does not appear as a file in the calibre file system.
I complicated things further by importing a copy of the new epub from the calibre library (to make sure I preserved a copy), then going into the file system and manually deleting the new epub from the original folder. So I do still have a copy of the converted epub, but when I copy that back into the original folder, "epub" no longer appears as a format, even though the file is in the library. I do have the pdf and the mobi versions available in the original folder, if that will help me. Hoping someone can help this novice epub editor... |

Wow. You know you are dealing with a genuine novice (my first post to a help forum) when she is unable to parse the answer to her query.
Is MDE the metadata editor? And if so, the original_epub is not listed there as an available format, if that is what I am supposed to select. Despite the fact that it shows up in calibre under the format column. |

Format column? Not a standard column. Preferences:Add your own... Is the a column icon next to it. That makes it something you added. It might tell you (in Type) what/how. Whatever, it seems to be stale if it is not on the Right side (formats box) of the MDE |

@ajbird - in the Book details panel Formats list, right click on the ORIGINAL_EPUB and select Restore…, viz:
