Hi,
I had to move my library the other day due to issues with cloud syncing. I copied the entire library to a new local drive. At the same time I uninstalled and re-installed Calibre as it kept crashing trying to access the previous library (which is why I moved it). Now I have two issues: 1) Calibre is not recognizing all the books in the library - I have not done anything in terms of manually editing the folder/file structure. Everything is where Calibre added it. But for some authors, they do not appear if I search their names (this is not a Virtual Library issue). 2) For the author above, I re-added a book by the author who was not found. Calibre added the book into the author folder alongside the previous copy of the book (same file size, same format, metadata, and cover image). Calibre did not flag that the book was already in there. I already ran library maintenance and checked library health - It says all is fine. My problem is that I have 3.5k books, and I cannot manually check which are 'seen' and which are not... Any suggestions will be gladly received! ![]() chrubble |

Rule #1 (before you make things worse
![]() ![]() Rule 1b Ask here for advice INCLUDE a good description of you existing setup that is causing issues you are asking about. In your case: What CLOUD. What OS? And What Calibre version? Help with starting using a different Library: See the command line calibre --with-library https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/gen...n/calibre.html That should give you a chance to use the GUI to change Libraries more permanently. |

Thanks, @theducks it was in Google Drive mounted as a virtual drive to my Mac. Calibre version 6.21.0
I have now moved the library to an External SSD and will give your suggestion a try - I am intending to update Calibre to 6.22.0 today, also. |

Google Drive is known to strip the id numbers off the book folders because it's used internally for revisioning. Open the library folder and see if that's the case here.
The best solution is to restore to a backup where the ids. But if that's not possible, my personal suggestion would be to make an entirely new library use 'add from folders and sub-folders' (click 'yes' for multi-file books) to re-add the entire old library. If the OPFs are there, I believe it should copy all the metadata in. Someone else might have a better suggestion. EDIT: Unfortunately, I'm not sure if any custom column information will get copied in from the OPF. But if you have any, re-create them with the same lookup names and try. Some possibilities should be outright forbidden in Calibre in some way, for instance:
- Convert from PDF to AZW3, EPUB or MOBI. (ugh..) - Google Drive library copy - sometime in the future, books might have uninvasive insertions of tailored Video Ads™ to enhance the user experience and improve customer satisfaction Upon any attempt, a small electroshock to the user could be given as a warning |

Unfortunately, I've seen other parts of the internet where everyone seems under the impression that Calibre works fine with cloud drives and NASs. It's frustrating as hell.

I felt the need for two-way cloud syncing of my library myself a couple of years back, when I used two laptops regularly (the smaller on the go and the larger as my daily driver at home, and I tinkered with my library on both). I did use Dropbox then, and had to run library maintenance all the time, because errors crept in, no matter how careful I was. At the moment I only use my main laptop for calibre work, but some day I might need more than that again. It's a pity Calibre can't be made compatible with cloud syncing, IMO. |

DISCLAIMER use at your own peril I have NOT had ant issue PULLING from my Intake PC by using Copy (delete after copy) to Library from the Main Library PC. Both were on the same Wired 10/100 Network. I have been doing this for over 4 Years. OTOH Trying to PUSH from Intake to Main had random issues. Do not try and Edit the remotes Metadata from Main (many frozen Calibre forms were common) either. |
