I can't set up KOBO GLO (2023)

Hello, I was searching the forum and I apologize if there´s another thread with this issue..

I installed the new image in my KOBO GLO, but when I start it, it does not allow me to connect to the WIFI network. Nor does the software recognize the app when I connect it (OSX High Sierra)

Can Calibre see it? (Free and on Mac, Windows and Linux)
Can the Apple filemanager see it?

I'd never use the Kobo app on Mac or Windows.

What sort of WiFi are you using?

You can also edit the Kobo directly if the App or WiFi doesn't work.

The firmware is too old, it doesn't have the necessary security certificate version "TL something or other." I ran into this with a Mini. I think they give you two choices, to set up with WiFi or connect to the Kobo Desktop. When I connected to the Kobo Desktop it never updated. When I connected via WiFi it did what yours is doing, "can't update."

My solution (on Linux, I'm guessing it will work on Mac as well) was to manually download the firmware update I wanted to use, then tell the Mini to connect to the Kobo Desktop (which gave me a connection to the my Linux computer, then I just copied over the update files to the Mini). Then restarted it. Once the firmware is updated, it will successfully connect to Kobo's website for registration and syncing.

Here's a link with more details on what I did with the Mini... (ignore most of it, I was also talking about the battery replacement)...

  1. Make sure your Glo is charged.
  2. Download the firmware from here. Make sure you chose the one for Kobo Glo (or Glo HD if that is what you have).
  3. Unzip the downloaded kobo-update-4.35.20400.zip file. You should see a folder called upgrade and two other files in there.
  4. Plug in your Kobo and tell it to connect.
  5. Navigate to your Kobo with Windows Explorer (or the Linux or Mac equivalent). Make sure you can see hidden items. You want to see a folder called .kobo
  6. Drag the folder and files from kobo-update-4.35.20400.zip to .kobo
  7. Disconnect your Kobo
  8. It should think for a minute and start updating. Let it do its thing.

I try to be very detailed, but this whole process should take you five to ten minutes max.

Now the real question: Why is your screen so shiny? That's some serious glare.

Why would WiFi impact a file manager's ability to see hardware plugged into a computer?

When you connect your Kobo to your computer, does the Kobo display a screen like the one in the attached image?

When the Kobo hasn't completed first log-in / registration I think you have to power off, connect to PC with USB and then select "Complete setup with desktop (or maybe PC)" and it expects the Kobo app, but then the files should be accessible without the Kobo Desktop program?

The filemanager/explorer only sees files via USB cable, never by WiFi.
