Automatic change of title metadata
Hi, hope this is the right place to ask for help.
For context: I have quite a few PDF books I have downloaded and when I did so I changed the title of the file to enable me to find/organise them more easily. Unfortunately in some of the ebook reader apps I have tried on my ipad the app will only pick up and sort by the metadata title name which is not for these the most helpful way to find/sort them. Sometimes the titles are so long they do not show up completely and where you have several starting with similar names that does not help and several I have named in a read order to merge two different but related series to put them in a chronological read order for the plot. Pocketbooks advised me to try using Calibre to alter the title metadata to reflect the names I want the books to have. Trouble is there are so many that doing them individually could take some time. Is there any feature in Calibre that I could use to create a global change of the title metadata to match the name I have given the file? (I'm not worried about the folder structure or anything like that I just want to change the title metadata to something more useful for me to identify the items more quickly) Any help would be gratefully appreciated. (If it is not possible then I will just have to accept that they need to be done individually and get on with it.) |

If the correct title is in the file name and they are standardised, there are options under the "Adding Books" section of calibre's preferences to get the metatdata from the filename rather than the pdf's metadata.
Untick "Read metatdata From file contents rather than file name" and setup a regular expression to match your filenames. If you have trouble with this bit, post an example of your filenames and someone who is actually good with regular expressions will give you a hand ![]() |
