Troubleshooting Grey boxes around touch buttons, Kindle for iPad

Does anyone have an explanation for these shadow boxes on the kindle for iPad screen and know how to remove them? I am up to date on everything.

Pure guess as I've seen such a setting on some Android phones and tablets after enabling Developer Mode, but I can't imagine iOS having such a setting easily accessible.

Just with the Kindle app? If so, might have to delete and re-install.

But first try force quitting the Kindle app. Maybe it's gotten into a bad state.

Yes. All books. I have rebooted the device a few times, still the same. This only just showed up yesterday. It appears as if the icons for pushing buttons have a "grey" background and not clear or white.

That was my thought, developer mode. It only affects the "icons" for the buttons.

I have rebooted and force quit the app. I am going to try the delete and reinstall option since no one else has experienced it.

The delete and reinstall worked. So something on mine must have corrupted. Thank you everyone for your troubleshooting skills. I really do appreciate it. Though it worked, it was annoying to stare at grey blocks while reading.

Yes, I can imagine!

In meantime on one of my iPads (and none of my other iOS devices), the Return option is not available for Kindle Unlimited borrows. I'm not prepared to delete and reinstall to see if it fixes this, but it is odd.

Now this is weird. It was working fine after the reinstall opened it this afternoon and it’s back.

Finally found it. I can now toggle it one or off from the iPad settings, accessibility section, display and text size. “Show button shapes”. Turn it off to hide the grey area around the bookmark and other buttons in the Kindle app.

Ages since I had an iPhone, but I thought it had to be something like that, though I thought a developer option (useful for that).

Trust me, I found it quite annoying to the point of not wanting to read on it. But the question in the back of my mind is, How did that button option get turned on from the day or so before when I last used it?

I don't remember doing it, but either a ghost did or I had to have done so.

There have been several iPad updates lately, and sometimes updates have been known to do weird things. Maybe yours updated and for some reason flipped the wrong bit.
