Bogus books
I just setup my new replacement Clara 2E, and my new Sage. I used the sqlite3 mod to bypass the registration. I did connect to WiFi to download a dictionary.
Now, in Series, both ereaders show several Kobo titles (I assume free samples), but the books don't exist on the ereader. How do I delete these? |

Archive or delete them on your Kobo account page.

You missed this: "I used the sqlite3 mod to bypass the registration".
I just did a factory reset of my Clara 2e, and did the registration bypass sqlite3 mod. I did not turn on WiFi, or do anything else. The bogus entries under Series and Author are still there. They must be baked in somehow. There must be a way to remove them, without having to create an account (even a fake one). I only use sideloaded books. Please, don't tell me that it's so easy to create a fake account. I know all about it, and don't want to go that route. |

That sounds like its a book preview. If it is you can go under your settings, manage downloads, and then delete the previews there.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried that. There is no option to delete them.
They seem to be just covers and metadata. No actual book pages. |

I've never seen any "ghost books" on my Kobos. I also read only sideloaded books and my Kobos are offline almost all the time, but I did register them when I first set them up. Still, I've seen no such thing as you describe. Just checked and the only books there are the sideloaded ones.

Why not use sideloadmode an get rid of the homescreen altogether? If you want to connect to cloud services and the like, there might be a patch for that?

Sounds to me like the fake registration doesn't work. Just stop being paranoid andf properly register.

You have to delete the sql database that the kobo shipped with, (or you can just use the Log Out feature in the Kobo UI.)... Kobo will generate a new blank database that does not include these placeholder book entries.
PS, if you have firmware 4.31 or newer, it is no longer necessary to use SQLLite data entry. Enabling SideloadMode in the config file is much easier. (And will survive database resets.) Last edited by rashkae; 05-07-2023 at 10:28 AM. |

(This has been discussed before; e.g. see my post here, in another thread.)
These are previews. In the KoboTouch or KoboTouchExtended configuration settings, select the “Metadata, on device & advanced” tab, then enable displaying previews. You may need to restart Calibre or reconnect your device (or both) before this takes effect, but once it does, Calibre should display the preview books on your device, and allow you to delete them from your device. Alternatively, the books should be stored as kepub files without a file extension, with some sort of GUID as their filename, in the .kobo/kepub/ folder on your device's filesystem. You should be able to simply delete them from this folder. You may want to power your Kobo off and on again afterwards to force a full library rescan. This should stop the authors of these books from appearing in the Authors view of My Books, but I haven't tested it for myself. Good luck, and happy reading. ![]() |

I'd still like to know why some people have these previews, while others do not.

Is "Show archived books" enabled in the KoboTouch(Extended) driver? I only see odd books when this is enabled.

go away
I've had nonexistent books appear on my Kobo too. It's nothing to do with fake registering. Last edited by ownedbycats; 05-08-2023 at 10:05 AM. |
