Opening Edit Metadata scrolls book list to the bottom
I don't use calibre every day, so maybe there's a setting or announcement I've missed.
Today (calibre 6.17) I've noticed that when I open the Edit Metadata dialog, the book list gets scrolled down quite a bit, often to the bottom. The selected book stays the same, it's just the scroll, but it's quite annoying. I have around 1000 books and a couple of virtual libraries, but this happens in the "all books" view. Is it just me? Is there a fix? |

Damn, that will make debugging trickier...
Answers:
Also, I doubt very much it has anything to do with the keyboard, given that it's a quite consistent behavior, happens with mouse-only actions and there are bogus keypresses in other programs. This is Kubuntu 22.04, by the way. Regarding a calibre downgrade, how far back can I go without risking a database damage or something? Last edited by Jellby; 05-06-2023 at 12:54 PM. |

OK, it seems it is indeed 6.17 that breaks it. With 6.16, the view is scrolled, but only to put the selected book in the middle. With 6.17 it goes way off. Tried downgrading & upgrading a couple of times and it is reproducible for me.

What happens if you select two rows then use Edit Metadata (Single)?

As it was put in place to workaround a different scrolling bug, I am curious as to whether right-clicking the column header and locking mouse-drag affects things.
I believe the cutoff is the switch from 4.xx to 5.xx. I doubt you'll be going back that far. Even so, it only errors when doing specific things (e.g. deleting books). Last edited by ownedbycats; 05-06-2023 at 02:08 PM. |

And are you running the official calibre release or a distro version of it?

Well, I am out of ideas, and given that I can't repeat it I can't debug it. I hope someone else can.

Is it worth creating a bug report?

Without being able to replicate it, I don't think it would get much farther than we did in this thread.

Yes, I think so, if the behavior is repeatable for you. Kovid definitely uses linux and might be able to repeat it on his system. Reference this thread.
Another thought: we have seen some very strange bug reports on linux systems caused by their window manager, in particular Wayland. Kovid has come very close to refusing to support Wayland installations. Any chance you are running Wayland, or possibly some other "unusual" window manager? |

On Windows, I've also had occasional glitches that I eventually isolated to shell extensions misbehaving with Qt. Don't remember enough of Linux to know if that could a thing, but another thing to look into.
