Hide activity page?

Hi everyone,

Long time lurker here. First, I must say thank you so much everyone, for all the help. Especially Davidfor, for his Kobo utilities!

So, I usually use KOreader and that is fine, but ever since sideloadmode came I'm starting to find the stock OS attractive again, mostly because it's so much more easier on the eyes and relatively speaking more user-friendly in many ways.

That said, I like privacy and ever since Kobo utilities let me block analytics I'm a bit relieved.

However, the one thing that I can't stand in the stock OS is the activity page. Even though I'm not sharing any of the stats with kobo, having to look at that page bothers me a lot. I just want to read a book, not facing an "eye" reminding me that everything I do on the device is recorded. It's like relieving yourself in a toilet with an eye painted on the wall. It makes people wash their hands!

So, I figure I have to options.

Either wait for som good doer inside this forum to find out a way to just hide the activity page or I'll just have to downgrade to 4....18 is it, where the activity page is voluntary? But then I'll not be able to use sideloadmode anymore and have to put up with kobo store.

Activity is tucked away in the More submenu. Can’t you pretend it’s not there? You don’t need to access it if you don’t wish to.

I don’t believe there’s a way to disable it, though. Others have asked before on this forum.

Then, I have just joined the choir I guess.

On my device it's located right beside the "my books" menu at the bottom left. Which might be because of sideloadmode? If it was located under the More submenu it would be lesser of an annoyance.

That's the beauty of the patches. You can customize what you want to see, or not see, on the bottom menu. All of my Kobos are patched and do not display "Activity." (Unless I am misunderstanding the question)

Hey, what!? Which patches? The nickel menu or where do I find it? I've got the nickel menu, but only because I've installed koreader and plato, so they are the only option in the menu.

You can download a firmware file from his site, manipulate it, and then perform a manual update to update your reader with the modified firmware.

Case closed.

You instructions are dangerous. If done wrong, the Kobo can become a brick.

You have to install the firmware and then do the patches for the same firmware version. It has to be in that order or you will get a brick.

Thank you. I think I got that, but as I wrote earlier- finding the right firmware and the right patch leaves me a bit confused for the moment.

Unless you are planning on installing a different firmware version, just reference the version that is currently on the device and download the identical version of kobopatch. Both kobopatch and firmware versions are linked in the signature of geek1011 here on MR:

All Kobopatch versions

Be certain to confirm the kobopatch version matches what is installed on the device before proceeding (displayed on upper left of file in red). The instructions are self-explanatory; follow exactly as written. I use Notepad++ for editing kobopatch files.

The following may be what you want:

Code:
src/nickel.yaml:
Remove footer (row3) and increase cover size on new home screen: yes

src/libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml:
Remove recommendations (row1col2) from home screen: yes
Never show Kobo Plus, wishlist, and points SmartLinks: yes

I completely forgot about the patches. I was focused on Nickelmenu, etc. Thanks for helping her out, both of you.

Unfortunately, changing this code did not remove the activity button. Can it be because of sideloadmode, you think? Where else do you think I should look in the patch descriptions? I've been through all of it, but perhaps I've missed something.
