Hello. I lost a day's work so went looking for some possible causes. I found an old post that said Sigil saves revisions in a zipped file, but I can find no such file. I would be so grateful for some direction.

What exact version of Sigil are you using?
If earlier than the very latest, these instructions might help: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=164 If using the current version, let us know and we can tell you how to adapt them to the current version. |

Hello KevinH, thanks for replying.
I'm using 1.9.20. Should I install the latest release? Will that help me find my saved edits from April 4th? Thanks for the link. I followed the process and found the Temp folder, however, there's nothing more recent in it than March 9th. (I hope this isn't the 3rd copy of my message - I'm not very good with forums ![]() |

No, stay with that 1.9.20 version. The instructions in that link should work for that version of Sigil

If your Sigil did not crash and you manually exited Sigil then no back up will exist as when Sigil closes normally it cleans up after itself.
So unless you did a file save or created a Checkpoint then you are most probably out of luck. Last edited by KevinH; 04-06-2023 at 11:47 AM. |

I always save - literally every 30 seconds when I'm doing edits. I didn't do File>>Save when I exited, though. I just clicked the disk icon then selected File>>Quit. Is that problem?
Also, I'm wondering why there's nothing in my Sigil TEMP folder beyond March 9th. Anyway, thanks for your help. It is what it is I guess. |

If you saved it, just look for that file on your file system.
Once you exit out of Sigil normally, Sigil will clean up the temp folder. Last edited by KevinH; 04-06-2023 at 01:10 PM. |

So, I found it in a different way and guess what? I somehow inadvertently saved all of that day's edits in calibre. But I didn't know that until just now, so in the last two days I have been redoing the edits (in Sigil). Now my question is, can I merge the two files in Sigil? Thanks

You can load the first, create a Checkpoint then load the second and produce the set of differences so that you can see what to keep and what to replace to hand merge the two versions of the epub on a file by file basis.
That said, if you are familiar with git and have an earlier version common to both you can use git's merge capability to merge the two trees and fix any merge conflicts manually. Last edited by KevinH; 04-09-2023 at 08:21 PM. |

GitHub is an online service. Git is the local command line tool used to manage (commit, merge, pull, push) local repositories.
