Add series to title in library
I want to add the series info of my series books to the title field. I've tried playing around with it using "Edit metadata in bulk" but have had no luck. I've searched all over and have not found a way to do this so I figured I would ask here. I found something where you build a few custom columns and combine them into another field but that also performed shortening of the names and I wasn't sure how to modify that so it wouldn't do that. For example, the title is "Rules of Prey" and the series field contains "[Lucas Davenport 01]". I would like to change the title to "Rules of Prey [Lucas Davenport 01]". I'd like to modify it in the library, not using "Save to disk". Any help with this would be appreciated. Thank you!

Bad idea to do this at the Library (grid view). All sorts of normal things get more difficult when you muck with basic metadata.
The template language and /or the plugboard allows the exported copy (Sendto Device, Save to folder) to be your way Code:
{authors}-{title} [{series} {series_index}] ![]() |

So I use that template with "Save to disk" to create a new copy of the file with a different name. Then do I add that file back into my library and delete the original from my library?

No.
My suggestion: Get View Manager. Create a custom view called 'Series.' Set the column order and sorting to display the informaiton you find most useful. Last edited by ownedbycats; 04-10-2023 at 08:20 PM. |

That looks nice. But I want to modify the title metadata as I mentioned so it will be easier for me to see books that are in a series when using Calibre Companion or in general, if not using a library manager.

I'm sorry... I appreciate you trying to help me but I'm really not following you here. CC did what? I don't know what a multi-pie version is or of what - or FW. And I don't know anything about Kobo.

Although I don't recommend it, you can do what you want using bulk edit search & replace in RegExp mode. The source is template, the destination is title. All without the quotes: source match will be "^(.*)$". Replace will be "\1". The template would be something like "{title} {series:| [|}{series_index:02d|]|}".
I can't test it at the moment. Perhaps someone else can. PLEASE PLEASE make a backup of your library before trying this. You can easily destroy your library and there is no undo. No one here can help you fix it. This will take a long time to run because calibre will change the name of most files in your library |

Thank you, Chaley! That is what I was looking for. I tested it out, tweaked it a bit, and got what I wanted. But all for naught, I suppose. I just noticed that the title portion of the filename gets truncated at 31 characters. Sooo, back to the drawing board to re-think this.
