How to make scanned PDFs speedy on Kobo?

After having used Kindle e-readers since the very start (I still have my 2007 one), I just bought a Kobo Sage, mostly to see if it was better at displaying scanned PDFs, something Kindles do so terribly that they're pretty much useless for that purpose. It turns out that the Sage does a good job, and the large screen helps, too. Finally, I can read my scanned PDFs on a device that won't distract me with other temptations.

The only problem has been that page turns take several seconds apiece. BUT after going through a bunch of PDFs I finally found some that are quite snappy. However, I'm not sure if they were created with different settings that make them Kobo-friendly. If they were, I'm interested in trying to batch process my other scanned PDFs with the same settings.

Anyone have any advice here? Thanks!

Generally conversion to 4bit (14 shades, black & white) with a crop makes a big difference. Reduce DPI to 300, or if it's a larger page size maybe 200 or 150.
