Paper book lending feature/options

Hi all, i'm looking to use Calibre to manage a small private paper book collection (using ISBNs), and i'm looking for options to manage the book in/book out feature when lending book to friends/people outside.
Ideally something very simple like a field for the book status (red or green) and a field for the name of the person too.

Is there any plugin/button/feature that can be used when i receive the book back to manage it's coming back?

Thanks all
Michele from Switzerland

Preferences > Add your own columns. This can also be accessed by right-clicking the header in the book list.

I'd suggest a "text, with fixed set of permitted values" for status, as it lets you set colours. (You can also go Preferences > Look & Feel > Column colouring let you set text colour based on rules.)

View Manager plugin lets you create a predefined set of columns and switch to it quickly.

Thank you!
i set it up now, and it works fine.

Image i'm going to scan my books with a barcode scanner (USB in hand), is there any way i can reclaim/open a record when reading one of the fields (ISBN is a column in my view)?

Thanks again

Search on the bar works fine, but, image i need to scan a book that comes in (it was lent, now it gets back to my home), how i can scan it with the barcode scanner and i can open the associated record automatically?
Like reclaiming that record?

Can the barcode scanner return the ISBN as a text string? If so, paste the results into Calibre search.

Yes! If it is a Keyboard wedge/emulator. It outputs just like a keyboard, except it may have a Prefix code and/or a Postfix code (CR is the usual, but a Tab is another one used).

Unlike the supermarket, the computer has no way of knowing if it is you or something else typing. It puts the output at the cursor. No need to paste if the cursor was where you want the data.

It is all about how it is configured as to what is output (or code system is ignored).
When I first started with Calibre, I used the Add: From ISBN form to do batches of 10-20 . I simply scanned the codes of that batch and stacked them, to resolve issues (metadata not found was common) after EACH ADD.

It works!
Clearly you need to click on the Search field before reading, then the ISBN code appears and you can find it.
I'm about to test the bulk reading of codes now....
