Oasis 2 vs Libra H2O for KOreader?

Hi all,

I'm looking to get an ereader exclusively for use with KOreader and wondering which of these two devices provides a better experience with that software. I was considering the Libra 2 but I'm not sure if the issues it's having with KOreader have been fully resolved as I know the Clara 2e is still having problems, and as well the Oasis 3 I'd be worried about firmware being too new to jailbreak and I'm not sure the new warm feature works with KOreader. In general I usually buy last generation's hardware anyway due to price.

I much prefer the metal design and flush screen of the Oasis, but I worry about its battery life which seems to be a perennial complaint in reviews-- whereas the plastic on the Libra looks a lot cheaper but I suppose the battery might be better? I have no idea which has a better display or which device runs KOreader better. There's also way more Oasises (?) out there on the used market than Libras.

I have an Oasis 2 and I use it with KOreader. I have never used a Libra so I can't give you any comparison notes. All I can say is it works well with KOreader and I have never had any issues with it. Battery life is fine for me but then I mostly use it around the house and I'll just charge it when it needs it.

I have no experience with the Oasis, but did go out of my way to source and buy a Libra H2O (ex demo) a few months ago specifically because KOReader works so well on it.

I've had both Oasis 2 and Libra H2O, but I didn't use KOReader with either. The display wasn't particularly good on either, but the Libra had the warm light feature at least, which the Oasis 2 didn't have. Ergonomically I also preferred the Libra, I hated the metal back of the Oasis. Both were relatively bug-free and stable. The only advantage of the Oasis 2 was its speed, it was faster than the Libra.

I had no complaints about battery with either, but I think the Libra had a bit better battery life.

First of all, if you will buy an Oasis 2 or Oasis 3 you should look for an used one cause a new Oasis will almost certainly come with the latest SW-Version. But before buying an used one you should ask the seller about the SW-Version on the device and additional to that, check if this SW-Version works with the jailbreak.

The warm light on the Oasis 3 is adjustable by a one finger gesture at KOReader and it works great.

I’ve had them both, the Oasis 2 and the Libra H2O. Unfortunately I deleted the pictures of the devices after selling them so I can’t compare them anymore. At this time my Oasis 2 wasn’t jailbroken to run KOReader on it, at the Libra H2O I had installed KOReader.

Now I’ve the Oasis 3 and the Kobo Libra 2. My favorite reader out of all my devices is the Oasis 3. I love the flush screen, the material and the possibility to JB and use KOReader on it. The last two things, JB & KOReader, took him to my loveliest one.

The display of the Oasis 3 is top, same at the Libra 2. The Libra 2 have the newer display technology. I’ve no battery issue with both readers and KOReader works at the Oasis 3 without problems.
I don’t know what issues with the Libra 2 and KOReader are existing. I load a book to the device via calibre, open the book and turn pages for reading, set him in sleep mode with the cover and this works. I love KOReader and all the things KOReader is able to do but in use, the things above written is my doing with KOReader.
And with the Libra 2 & KOReader it’s similar.

If you won’t have a risk about the SW-Version etc. for an used or new Oasis I would recommend to you a Libra H2O or Libra 2. Then you will have nothing to think or worry about.
Otherwise, if you want to take a risk, an Oasis is definitely worth it in any case.

Edit: I guess some of the people who offer their Oasis, especially the Oasis 3, are looking to the Scribe and will probably buy the Scribe.

"Better feel" is very subjective. I found the metal back of the Oasis very uncomfortable to hold and much prefer the plastic backs of my Kobos.
