calibre-web and custom columns from count pages plugin

Does this plugin work on calibre-web? This is precisely the functionality which I've been seeking. I have a library of a few hundred books (my reading list, effectively) which I would love to sort by length. I don't mind manually entering page length either but I don't know how I could set something like that up, either.

Happy to see this in active development because it seems like really useful functionality which core calibre is missing.

I haven’t used calibre-web myself but I assume you mean the github project by that name? It says it has support for custom columns, which is what this plugin uses to store the calculated page/word counts.

Yes, this is Calibre-web https://github.com/janeczku/calibre-web

It is basically a version of Calibre you can install on your own server to manage a self-hosted Calibre install on a server rather than on a local computer.

No it is not "a version of Calibre". It only uses / parses Calibre's database file. And serves similar function as Calibre's built-in content server.

Alright, the difference is insignificant semantics, it is a web-based adaptation of Calibre which uses the Calibre database.

Okay, I am seeking to use the page count plugin, or add page count functionality, whether in a new column or otherwise, to calibre-web. If anyone has any leads on that, I would be appreciative.

Sorry to hear that.

Unfortunately I don’t remember exactly, but I think all my customs columns showed up in calibre-web (searchable). Have you checked all the options regarding custom columns? The next question would be are you sure you can sort by page length? I don't think it used to be possible - only author, published date and added date.

Edit: One more option - title, but not page length

I am not sure it's possible, no. My situation is I have hundreds of books in my library and sometimes I am just seeking to locate which books would be quicker to read since many of the books are 700+ pages in length. Maybe not many other people could benefit from this sorting capability, but I really could.

I have checked through all of the settings available and documentation but so far haven't figured out how to use the custom columns functionality to be able to sort in this fashion.

I don't know calibre-web at all, but this is GUI plugin, so its design is thought around the insfrastructure that calibre GUI offers. I'm sure that the underlying algorithm, based on the data in calibre database, will work. The plugin as is... I seriously doubt it.

Even if you can’t sort in calibre-web by a custom column, you can search by the sounds of things. If it allows expressions like #pages < 200 then you could use that to at least find the smaller books. And you could always go a step further with an additional custom column that categorises the books into page ranges so you can then filter by that instead.

None of that is relevant to this plugin thread though, this discussion should be moved elsewhere. As Terisa said Count Pages this is a calibre gui plugin, you have to have calibre running pointing at your calibre database to use it. Then by the sounds of it you run calibre-web to also point to the same database and configure it to display the custom column. It shouldnt be more difficult than that.

Understood, I will resume investigation elsewhere. Thank you for providing clarity on this, appreciated.

Why bother with Calibre-Web when you can use Calibre to connect via the net?
